About Exim

Exim Dance Company is a Plymouth based award winning Dance Company known for their fresh and vibrant approach to making dance accessible for all.

Exim exists to provide opportunities for ‘At Risk’ young people to participate in socially engaged dance classes. We are passionate about using dance to help vulnerable young people, breaking down the ideological barriers that surround dance, holding inclusivity at the heart of all of our work. We are dedicated to reducing barriers to regular participation in dance for young people of all ages marginalised as a result of their disadvantages in life. To do this we believe that as well as delivering our own programme of work we must also provide high quality training and opportunities to students and professionals wishing to work as dance practitioners in the community.

“Individually they demonstrate their passion for dance and strong engagement with learning, bringing deep understanding of how dance can transform lives and empower others.”  - Ruth Way, Associate Head, School of Performing Arts (Plymouth University)

Exim creates live productions that tour. We work across art forms and allow our multi dimensional work to reach out to new audiences. Stripping away pre-conceived ideas and being real about who we are and what we do. What makes us unique is that we have the same approach to making work with our professional dancers as we do making work in a community setting.

*Exim won second place in the dance Camera Action section of the Cornish Film Festival in 2011. In 2015 Exim Dance's Intern won Intern of the Year at the National Awards for Creative and Cultural Skills. In 2015 Exim Dance were awarded a special commendation from Grads for Growth for their work to develop graduates.

“Our school is very happy with the service that Exim provides. The dance teachers are reliable and the children really enjoy the sessions.” - Beverly Holder, Head Teacher, Widewell Primary School Plymouth
